What is the common cause of hair loss?

There are many cause of hair loss. The most common cause of hair loss is Female pattern hair loss(FPHL) and Male pattern hair loss(MPHL). Other cause of hair loss including Alopecia Areata, Telogen Effluvium, Nutrient deficiency and Hair Fungal Infection.

Female pattern hair loss

A type of hair loss caused by genetic predisposition where hair follicles are sensitive to hormone. It usually occurs in female. Hair begins to thin at vertex & hairline area in early 20. It is good recovery rate if treated early. But maintenance treatment is very important, cause it has “genetic” predisposition.

Male pattern hair loss

A type of hair loss caused by genetic predisposition where hair follicles are sensitive to hormone. It usually occur in male and sometimes happened in female. Hair begin to thin at vertex and frontal area in early 20. Many men find it distressing and unwelcome event. Actually there are effective and safe treatment of male pattern hair loss. Alepecia areata

Alopecia areata is autoimmune hair loss where our own immune system attack the hair follicles causing patchy hair loss. It MUST be treated early to prevent permanent hair loss. Treatment is including tropical medication, corticosteroid injection and hair care. Proper follow up with doctors are important because the recurrence rate is high depend the onset of disease. The relapse rate was 52%, 44% and 30% in the childhood‐onset, adult‐onset and late‐onset groups.

Hair fungal infection

Fungal will cause inflammation to scalp and hair follicles causing hair loss. This condition can be treated easily with fungal medication. But if left untreated may cause permanent scaring hair loss.

Telogen effluvium

A condition where stress towards the body causing a temporary stop in hair growth. Patient usually experience general thinning of hair and hair loss. It is commonly seen in post pregnancy where there is general shedding of hair and thinning of hair. Certain medical condition like hypothyroidism can cause thinning of hair as well. Some studies find out that certain nutrient deficiency like Iron, Zinc, Vitamin D, Vitamin B and folic acid can cause general thinning of hair.
