What is cytokines?
Cytokines is a product originated from South Korea. It has been in the market for more than 10 years, with numerous successful results and testimonial in hair growth and restoration.
Cytokines are a large group of proteins, peptides or glycoproteins which can be found naturally in our body. It is a type of molecule that mediate and regulate immunity, inflammation, and hematopoiesis, thus stimulating hair growth and hair rejuvenation.

Many research and papers had been done on cytokines. Therefore, it is SAFE and with proven results! Below are some of the clinical research by medical society.
To put into detail, these are the growth factors contained in the Cytokines:
1) FGF9 (Fibroblast Growth Factor)
2) Noggin
3) Cu/Zn SOD (Superoxide Dismutase)
4) SCF (Stem Cell Factor)
5) IGF-1 (Insulin-like Growth Ffactor)
6) VEGF (Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor)
7) bFGF (basic Fibroblast Growth Factor)
8) KGF (Keratinocyte Growth Factor)
What are the benefits of Cytokines?
- Stimulate more baby hair growth at existing hair follicle
- Strengthen existing baby and adult hair
- Increase scalp circulation and building a better scalp
- Prevent hair follicle into going to permanent telogen phase (follicle closure)
- Reduce hair loss
The treatment for cytokines must always be prescribed and performed by a trained doctor.
How Cytokines helps with hair growth?
Cytokines helps by stimulating the Anagen phase of the hair cycle and reducing the Telogen phase of the hair cycle, thus it helps to restart the whole hair cycle.
Anegen phase
The anagen phase is known as the growth phase. This is the phase where the hair physically grows approximately 1 cm per month. It begins in the papilla and can last from 3-5 years. The span at which the hair remains in this stage of growth is determined by genetics. The longer the hair stays in the anagen phase, the longer it will grow. During this phase, cells neighboring the papilla in a germinative layer divide to produce new hair fibers, and the follicle buries itself into the dermal layer of the skin to nourish the strand. About 85% – 90% of the hairs on one’s head are in the anagen phase at any given time.
Catagen phase
The catagen phase, the transitional phase, allows the follicle to regenerate. During this time, which lasts about 2 weeks the hair follicle shrinks due to disintegration and the papilla detaches and ‘hibernates’ and cuts the hair strand off from its nourishing blood supply. The first sign of catagen is the cessation of melanin production in the hair bulb and apoptosis (self destruction) of follicular melanocytes. Causing the follicle to shrink to is 1/6 its original length. While hair is not growing during this phase, the length of the terminal fibers increases when the follicle pushes them upward.
Telogen phase
During the telogen or resting phase (also known as shedding phase) the follicle remains dormant for1-4months. 10-15% of the hairs on one’s head are in this phase of growth at any given time. In this phase, the epidermal cells lining the follicle channel continue to grow as normal and may accumulate around the base of the hair and preserving the hair for its natural purpose without taxing the body’s resources needed during the growth phase.

At some point, the follicle will begin to grow again. The hair base will break free from the root and the hair will be shed. Within 2 weeks, the new hair shaft will begin to emerge once the telogen phase is complete. The process results in normal hair loss known as shedding.
Basically, the FGF9 will amplify circulation and growth of existing hair follicle by speeding up hair growth in the Anagen phase with help from Noggin and Cu/SOD.
IGF-1 plays a role here as well to maintain a sufficient duration for the anagen phase.
When the hair cycle reaches the catagen phase, SCF comes in and reduce the Catagen phase and hastens the Telogen phase by stimulating new cells for hair growth and regeneration.
In the Telogen phase, growth factors such as VEGF, bGF and KGF play an important role here to stimulate new baby hair growth and promote health follicles.
